Pippin the cat collapsed on Thursday late morning, mewling, breathing laboured. We weren't sure where she had come from or where she had been but she was not a well cat. Our vet was able to see her immediately so Richard and I bundled her up carefully and drove her to the practice. It was scary. After a first check-up, we were sent home to await further news. It was a tense couple of hours. Pippin was severely hypothermic, dehydrated, and open mouth breathing which apparently is a bad sign but Amy the vet stabilised her and started to warm her up gently. She had no obvious injuries although her back right leg was clearly painful. Come evening, she had recovered a little but was not well enough to come home. She was referred to the small animal hospital for overnight care. She was lethargic on the way there but she did a little purring when I stroked while we were waiting to be admitted. I went home, reassured that she would be well looked after. The next morning, her temperature was closer to normal but she needed to finish her bag of fluids and was discharged back to the vet. Finally, late on Friday afternoon, she was allowed home, with a bottle of anti-inflammatories and some nutritional supplements. We don't know what happened to Pippin. She had a full physical examination, a whole body x-ray, ultrasounds and blood tests, nothing of concern was found apart from anaemia, which apparently wasn't new. She must have been trapped outside in the cold somewhere and the hypothermia maybe caused her collapse. Pippin nearly died, which was scary. Thank goodness we were working at home and could take care of her. She pulled through and is now recovering, under house arrest until further notice.
On the way to the day vet with Pippin I killed a pigeon. It was scavenging chips on the road and didn't notice I was approaching. The woman behind me in her pretentious SUV was on a mission of utter urgency, driving so close I couldn't see her front lights and I didn't dare breaking abruptly. I makes me feel sick just thinking about it but I hope at least the chips were worth it.
In other news, Alistair's ankle is much better and he is no longer in great pain. All males in the house are off to on a three day half term trip. Lupin (the incontinent cat) is still peeing on the floor but less frequently so. Life rocks.
Thanks for visiting 🙂
